Is there really a better author than Q. David Bowers when it comes to Numismatics? He is the best....nobody else comes close. There are also some great writers when it comes to rare coins but Bowers is the King.When this book came out in 2004 I bought a copy and I just bought another one. Of course the pricing is out of date....you need real time for pricing in Numismatics. Yes, rare coins can be very dangerous when it comes to making a profit, but collect for enjoyment. Bowers stresses that in this book and every book he has written and I think I own them all.The book is awesome.....he goes through each date and mint issue by issue. Clueing us all in on the different aspects of each coin. Pricing of course will tell us which issues are rare and which are common. The narrative.....you might as well be listening to your best friend. Or your best girlfriend. Bowers words just glide. If you like Double Eagles get the book. If you like History get the book. If you have never bought a rare coin before but are contemplating doing that, most certainly get the book. And really get all of Davids books.

Great book
An excellent read with pictures of each coin(s) from the years this series were produced (1849-1933). Book was shipped promptly and well packaged.
As Advertised
While not nearly as good as the Mike Fuljenz books on pre-1933 US gold coins, the book had a good amount of information about double eagles. Fuljenz has yet to write a book about double eagles and there are not many hard copy resources available at this time.I thought the information was well written but the format is really terrible. Small text on bland pages with only a few inset pages in color. I spent quite a bit of time reading the pages through a magnifying glass and I'm a younger man who does not wear corrective lenses!
